I find this especially on Second Walk. Considering this was J. F's most costly album to produce, it has some good music relationships but is not my favorite of his albums. I think it has a very different style and sound than his other albums which make this a nice addition to your collection of J.
I'd say don't overlook it but don't think it will be your favorite because it was the most expensive production. This is a solid composition. The vocal relationships and layers that Frusciante arranged on this album are beautiful. Really, like all his albums, the transitions as one piece ends and the next begin are just fantastic. This CD deserves a lot more recognition than it generally receives. I'm a huge fan of everything Frusciante releases, but, unlike most of his other releases, this is an album I'd recommend to anyone who likes rock n' roll.
One thing that makes it great is the Massive Attack Protection of the packaging and insert. The insert is printed on really nice paper, not glossy and cheap like most inserts. In contrast to the cover, which isn't my favorite, all the rest of the packaging and insert is attractive and elegant, through and through. There's John Frusciante Shadows Collide With People obnoxious FBI warning, and the lyrics to every song are neatly handwritten in the insert.
The CD itself is beautiful, and has every track name written in his handwriting as well. As for the music, it's very passionate, interesting, and melodic. With Chad Smith on drums, and Josh Klinghoffer helping with keyboards, guitar and bass, this has a less indie feel than his other solo albums, which are less carefully produced, and more raw. This release isn't very experimental, but it still has that raw passion that is characteristic of everything Frusciante does.
This particular John Frusciante Shadows Collide With People showcases the best of his vocal skills; he tuned everything more carefully, and spent more time and money on this than his other Public Enemy Fear Of A Black Planet. Jim Scott's mixing and mastering is exquisite as always.
The lyrics are poetic, and sometimes dark, but uplifting at other times. If you liked By The Way, you'll most likely love this album. I recommend it above all his others, for anyone who is interested in beginning an exploration of John Frusciante Shadows Collide With People beauty that is John Frusciante solo. Some people sit around wasting tape but not John, He's making all of the the right noises here, sculpting this sound wave the way Michael Angelo would a block of stone.
